Center for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) :
Sustainable development aims at meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The objective is to achieve a state of society where living conditions and resources are used to continue to meet human needswithout undermining the integrity and stability of the natural system. On September 25, 2015, the UN General Assembly resolved taking up of 17 Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs) by all member countries, and achieve the agreed targets during the 15 year period of 2016-2030.
Pioneering innovative measures for achieving the SDGs was the first major initiative taken up by the Centre for SDGs, during the very first year of setting up of Shaping Tomorrow. Founder Anurag Goel developed world’s 1st conceptual Model for SDG Implementation, which was adopted by the Government of Assam on 28th December, 2015. He assisted Assam Government in achieving global leadership position in SDGs in 2016. The State’s leadership was formally acknowledged by UNDP and Prof Jeffrey Sachs, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General from 2001 to 2018, and the Assam Model was adopted by many other States, and drawn upon by UNDP also.
The Center is developing a knowledge bank on futuristic sustainability strategies involving clean and disruptive technologies on key sustainability issues like vertical farming, cultured food, electric vehicles, smart future sustainable cities, carbon footprint, net zero etc. The current focus is on Health/ Longevity, Education, Agriculture and Livelihood ( HEAL). From corporate perspective, the very critical overarching issues of environment, social, and governance ( ESG), are also being addressed.
